Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, University Research Award Comarcal Press 2017
Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, professor at the Mediterrani University School (University of Girona), Pompeu Fabra University, Ramon Llull University, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), EAE-Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and other universities, and Director of the Cable Studies Center (CECABLE), received the 9th University Research Award Comarcal Press, organized by Premsa Comarcal (ACPC) and Xarxa Vives d’Universitats in Igualada (Leather Museum), in the framework of the 10th Local and Local Press Convention, for the work “The use of social networks in ACPC newspapers: formulas to achieve impact and income”.
“This recognition is a great joy, since it is fundamental to analyze how the media can obtain performance in the form of interaction and income in social networks. A model that confers objectivity allows placing each medium in the environment and offers improvement guidelines”, says Fondevila, born in Terrassa and Principal Investigator of the Research Group on Innovative Monetization Systems on Digital Journalism, Marketing and Tourism (SIMPED) and the Research Group on Digital Journalism and Marketing and Broadband. Dr. Fondevila also won the VII edition of this Award.
In the research, with a funding of 5,000 Euros, a model of quantitative and qualitative analysis is proposed, which will be applied in Catalan newspapers. The diagnostic model allows classifying, through a final score, the various means, which can be located in the marketing scale. Social networking data are matched against existing metrics (Murdough, Lovett, Bonson and Ratkai and Barger and Labrecque) and monetization of social media is provided to local and regional media to generate income. The results of the practical application, to be carried out during the next months, will be presented in the month of May, 2018.
