A project by Professor and Doctor Fondevila at the SCC-IEC on scientific journals of communication in Catalan, winner in a Call for Research
The research project “Reality and challenges for the scientific journals of communication in the IEC territorial scope”, of the Catalan Society of Communication (SCC), has won the Call for Research of the Section of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Institute of Catalan Studies. The SCC project (with Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón and Bertran Salvador i Mata, from the SCC, and IEC representative Andreu Casero, as principal researchers) has won and received an award of 4,000 euros.
Communication sciences are a dynamic subject of study, which evolves rapidly and which has received a great boost as a result of digitization. Indexed scientific journals on communication in the Catalan-speaking territory have experienced a noticeable progression, although a state-of-the-art study of various quality indicators is needed to lead to improvements in the future.
The aim of the research is to analyze the reality and the challenges for scientific communication journals in the territorial scope of the IEC. The research, of an exploratory and comparative nature, will use a quantitative (analysis of statistically quantifiable indicators) and qualitative (Delphi) methodology. Comparative tables will be collected that will include the year the activity began, type of publisher, frequency of publication, subject area, indexing source, format (print and/or digital), type of access, language used, social networks used and other relevant indicators.
As a result, a picture of the situation of indexed scientific journals of communication in the territories of Catalan language and culture will be projected and lines of improvement will be proposed, taking into account their weaknesses and strengths. All of this will help each journal to place itself in the scene of the area of knowledge and to observe possible ways of optimizing the activity and positioning, which can have an impact on a greater amount of citations received and factor d ‘impact, and in an improvement in the use of Catalan in the scientific field. The written communication indicates that “I am pleased to inform you that your proposal “Reality and challenges for scientific journals of communication in the IEC territorial scope” has been resolved positively”. This research success fills me with pride as President of the SCC-IEC and will provide knowledge transfer for scientific journals.
