Worldwide Gold Award to Dr. Fondevila for the 25 years of the Cable and Broadband Catalonia Congress
Doctor Joan-Francesc Fondevila-Gascón received the Worldwide Gold Award for organizing the Cable and Broadband Catalonia Congress, which in 2021 reached 25 editions. This award, granted by institutions, entities and companies that have collaborated with the Congress, rounds off the trajectory of an event that has led the technological debate.
“It is exciting and a reason for joy to receive this recognition, which I extend to all the people, institutions and companies that have collaborated with the Cable and Broadband Catalonia Congress”, explains Fondevila, director of the Cable Studies Center (CECABLE). The Congress was born from an idea by Fondevila, who detected the need for an event that would analyze the situation and the applications of the Broadband Society, linking telecommunications and journalism, technology and content creation.
The event started in Terrassa, the birthplace of Fondevila and CECABLE, an organizer together with other institutions, entities and companies. Always closely linked with the university and the company, in order to guarantee the transfer of technology, the Congress has passed through Casa Baumann of Terrassa, Epic Casino del Comerç of Terrassa, Vapor Universitari of Terrassa, Escola Superior de Disseny, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull. The main institutions (led by the Generalitat de Catalunya), entities (Feceminte, COETTC and other professional associations and various entities) and companies in the sector have enthusiastically collaborated with the initiative, as well as the public, who have always responded in large numbers. Such has been the impact of the Congress that an edition was even held in Santander, in collaboration with the Cantabrian government, Cesine and other entities and companies.
The Congress has also been characterized by the great media impact achieved, both in traditional media and on the Internet and social networks. The 25th edition was special, since it became the first in person after the confinement caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting in 2022, the Congress will be included in a macro-event together with other institutions.
